It didn’t have to come to this.  Really.  It didn’t.

The Republican Party didn’t need to be pulling out its collective hair trying to figure out how to keep a bloviating billionaire from cleaving its party apart—or worse!
And establishment Democrats needn’t be spending valuable time, energy and resources trying to keep a 74-year-old, self-styled democratic socialist from the top of its ticket.

Insanity on the part of the electorate you in the establishment, say?
Well, if the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result, working class Americans may finally be coming to their senses.

Again and again they’ve elected you into office, and again and again you’ve disappointed them—miserably.

Americans are tired of being jerked around, held out as pawns for an elitist class of politicians, lobbyists, other privileged insiders and one percenters.

Knowingly or unknowingly (to give you the benefit of the doubt) over the decades—through the laws you passed, and didn’t pass—you’ve managed to fashion a government and economic system that favors special interests over the common good.

Somehow you failed to see, understand or simply ignored the slow but steady decline of the middle class and the worsening conditions in our inner cities.
Time and again you failed to safeguard the majority of Americans against the outsized greed and avarice of your big donors and crony companions.

Instead of investing in early childhood and adult education, job training, research and development, business development and the like, you decided to give the most well-off among us tax breaks—and wonder why we continue to run deficits.
For many, the Great Recession was the final straw.

I’ve lived and worked in Washington for more than 35 years.  It’s chock-a-block full of smart—some even brilliant—people.  Wise, meh, not so much.   It’s a city of axe grinders who can’t see beyond their whetstones to do what’s right for our country.

While you continue to be feted at fundraisers, cocktail parties, receptions and even award ceremonies, know that millions of Americans are still trying to recover from having their homes foreclosed on, and millions more from having lost financial ground over the past several decades because you all failed to do your jobs!

Our Founding Fathers—the elites of their day and more diverse in their backgrounds, politics, wealth and religion than one can imagine—in one hot Philadelphia summer miraculously managed to come to consensus on a constitution that has lasted for centuries.  Yet we can’t depend on you to pass on annual budget!   Those long ago Fathers must be rolling in their graves.

I could go on, but I’ll end it here.  Most of you probably stopped reading paragraphs ago, anyway.  But for those still reading—WAKE UP!

As perverse as it may appear, the electorate finally has.
