Capital Markets Intro

Capital Markets – a formal definition --

The capital markets are the markets for long-term loans and equity capital. Companies and the government can raise funds for long-term investments via the capital markets. The capital markets include the stock market, the bond market, and the primary market. Securities trading on organized capital markets is monitored by the government; new issues are approved by authorities of financial supervision and monitored by participating banks. ...

What the definition does not say is that the capital markets are pulsating, living entities that breathe in and out, monitor, react, rise and fall, reflect, anticipate, reward and punish, and claw and stomp as they provide the steam that drives the engines of what we call the global economy.

There are Bulls and Bears; heroes and scoundrels, traders, regulators, analysts, lawyers, accountants, CEOs, boards, shareholders and customers – all playing a role in the highest stake poker game on the planet.

The editors at Accountability-Central will strive to help keep all the stakeholders informed, the players identified, regulators’ actions highlighted and trends duly noted as it presents news and updates, research and insights, and commentary and opinion on the ins and outs and ups and downs of these global engines.

-- The Broadway Bull – the 7,000 pound bronze statute stands in the middle of Broadway at Exchange Place (NYC) and is often touched by investment bankers and brokers on their to/from the office for good luck.  The bull is the work of NYC artist Arturo deModica, and originally stood at the NYSE (just a few blocks away).
