To achieve this, As You Sow: · Engages corporations through direct dialogue and shareholder advocacy; · Refines economic arguments to move corporations and financial markets toward environmentally and socially responsible practices; · Enforces environmental, consumer protection and related laws; As You Sow is seeking a full-time Development Manager, who is an experienced and innovative administrator of fundraising programs, with a particular emphasis on foundation fundraising. The Development Manager will be the lead staff person on grants management, which includes identifying, managing and submitting Letters of Interest (LOIs), grant proposals and reports, tracking income, and assisting with budget projections. The Development Manager will work collaboratively with the Executive Director, CSR Program Director, Board of Directors, Advisory Board, Program Staff and fundraising consultants to coordinate cultivation and solicitation efforts with foundations and individual donors. The Development Manager will develop strategies for major donor and membership revenue streams and oversee the development-related duties of a part-time Administrative Associate. The job has the potential to develop into a senior level position. Institutional Giving · Oversee the timely production of LOIs, grant proposals, grant reports and acknowledgements to current and potential funders, including developing written content, copy-editing and reformatting of text. · Coordinate correspondence with funders, and handle routine clarifying calls regarding submission dates, guidelines. · Oversee the maintenance of our foundations database – with responsibility for tracking deadlines, communications, awards, contact information, follow-up tasks and reporting requirements. · Research new foundation and government funding opportunities and alert staff if follow up is recommended. · Oversee the maintenance of all grants-related files, including supplemental information files, program reports, organizational promotional materials and standard organizational information. · Maintain up-to-date grants calendar, alert staff to all upcoming deadlines and cultivation tasks. · Set financial institutional fundraising target and budget, track actual awards to goals, and produce financial updates as needed for staff and board. · Oversee the creation and maintenance of an individual giving strategy, engaged membership community, and tracking database. · Coordinate direct mail and online activities, and run reports as needed . · Provide event support/volunteer coordination for fundraising events as directed by executive staff or consultants. · Manage membership communication and acknowledge all gifts. · Coordinate with major donor consultant as needed in the development of a more significant individual giving program.
General coordination/support · Prepare/circulate agenda and take minutes at Development Team meetings. · Perform additional fundraising support tasks as identified by staff. · Draft fundraising-related text for contribution to newsletters, websites, board reports, promotional materials, annual reports or other publications as needed. · Track/manage strategic events, opportunities, and contacts for fundraising. · Support program staff in representing the organization at events to cultivate/develop relationships with donors and grantors as needed. · Participate in planning sessions with other staff to develop ideas and strategies for developing new prospects and programs or activities. · Provide funding information for the organizational budgeting process, budget updates and cash flow reporting.
Qualifications · Two to four years professional experience in grants management, funder cultivation and solicitation, with a proven track record in securing major grants from institutions. · Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent job experience. · Familiarity with the environmental, health and labor rights communities and ability to assess potential fundraising prospects. · Excellent technical and program-related writing, research and analytical skills. · Enthusiastic, highly detail-oriented, assertive, able to think critically and enjoys identifying new opportunities. · Self-motivated, flexible, learns quickly and possesses a high level of personal integrity. · Excellent organizational skills -- able to multi-task, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and successfully manage numerous projects simultaneously. · Experience with data management, financial reports, relational databases (FileMaker preferred). · Basic spreadsheet development and maintenance (Excel). · Demonstrated ability to work effectively in collaboration with Board members, senior program staff, administrative staff, external agencies, consultants and vendors. · Experience with individual donor fundraising, particularly major gifts, a big plus.
