Home Depot is one of the nation’s “big box” retailers with stores found in hundreds of American communities.  While outstanding product selection and bringing down prices for do-it-yourselfers and home renovators wins friends, Home Depot also has its critics.

Shareholder activists in particular were outraged in 2006 when the board of directors skipped the company’s annual meeting.  The CEO quickly assured shareowners the mistake would be corrected.  But the buzz among the shareholder activist community continued well beyond the meeting.
